Designer’s Diary 02
Testing the Limits of Fast-Paced Sports Gaming
Keeping the 60-minute limit is proving to be a real challenge, but it’s what makes the game unique and intense.
Training Phase: Card-Driven Team Development
I’ve implemented a new Training Phase mechanic, where players use cards from their hand to boost team skills or target bonuses for the next series of 3 matches. Focusing on offensive or defensive tactics grants extra bonuses, making each decision impactful. After hours of testing, the system is working quite smoothly and adds a strategic layer that keeps every match exciting.
Arsenal 2024-25 Season Tests: Real Results, Real Drama
Recent tests with Arsenal’s 2024-25 season produced some fascinating outcomes:
First test: 35 points in 18 matches
Second test: 37 points
Third test: Only 28 points, but drama in rounds 10-12 with 3 red cards and 3 consecutive 0-2 losses!
The real Arsenal scored 36 points in that period, showing how closely the game can mirror actual results.

Designer’s Diary 01
For a long time, I’ve dreamed of creating a sports board game where you can play an entire season in just ONE SESSION — and finally, it’s happening!
The working title is ONE HOUR SEASON. Each session lets you manage your football team through 13 rounds (38 matches) using only a deck of cards and team stats like Class, Offense, Defense, and Morale. Three cards decide every match — the result, the score, and the match events (penalties, VAR, red cards… you name it!). Early tests look good — results are surprisingly close to real historical seasons.
I’m now testing a light training & fitness system to keep things realistic but fast-paced (the “one-hour rule” is brutal).
